How to Play MLB Pickle
The game starts when you enter the name of any current MLB player. With each guess, MLB Pickle gives you a set of visual clues to help you zero in on the mystery player.
A green outline in any category means you’ve hit the mark—whether it’s the correct team, league, position, age, or handedness.
A gold border gives you a nudge in the right direction: for example, if you see a gold box around the Division column, the player is in the same division as your guess.
If the gold outline appears around the Position column, you’ve guessed a secondary or alternate position of the player—but not the primary one.
Age works a bit differently. A gold highlight here means your guess is within two years (either older or younger) than the mystery player.
The same kind of logic applies to the team’s league and handedness.
Everything else? Gray means a total miss, and it’s time to rethink your approach.
You have a maximum of nine guesses, so use each one to narrow your range and pick players that test a different combination of clues.
The best part? You don’t need to start over each time. Instead, MLB Pickle encourages you to use each previous guess as a stepping stone.
Think strategically: if your guess reveals the player bats right-handed and is in the NL Central, your next move should be someone else from that division with similar stats but a different position or age.
Bit by bit, you’ll whittle it down—like a manager crafting a winning lineup.
